EU countries are currently discussing a new sanctions package against Russia, which would be the 21st since the large-scale invasion began in February 2022.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said she had spoken with Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Toiu to convey the bloc’s “full solidarity with Romania.”

“Moscow must not be allowed to violate European airspace with impunity,” K. Kallas said, calling the incident “a clear and serious violation of Romania’s sovereignty and European airspace.”
The EU’s top diplomat noted that foreign ministers meeting in Cyprus on Thursday reaffirmed their commitment to increasing pressure on Russia, supporting Ukraine, and investing in European defense.
