Large fires have been raging in France for several days, exhausting hundreds of firefighters working around the clock.
France has mobilized its army to help the exhausted firefighters.
The French Ministry of Defence announced earlier on Saturday that it was deploying an additional 500 soldiers to help “protect people and property” during the forest fires.
The ministry stated that the soldiers would help evacuate residents from areas threatened by fires and guard homes left unattended during the emergency.
With the deployment of additional troops, the total number of mobilized soldiers increased to 1,500.

French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez (Loranas Nunjesas) stated earlier on Saturday that the fires in France had devastated nearly 98,000 hectares – an “historic record,” according to him. The devastated area is almost 10 times larger than the city of Paris.
So far, there have been no reports of civilian deaths, but two French firefighters died near Bordeaux earlier this week.
The government announced on Saturday that 197,000 people had been evacuated from areas around Bordeaux due to the forest fires.
According to the interior minister, this is “probably” the largest peacetime evacuation the country has ever seen.
