“The two-factor identification tool is currently developed, tested, and it will be launched on Friday,” Edvinas Grikšas told Žinių radijas on Thursday.

According to the minister, such an authentication system should have been implemented at the Registry Center much earlier and could have prevented data theft.
“I cannot understand that the Registry Center did not have such solutions that could probably have prevented the path (of data theft – BNS) even through hacked third-party systems, in this case – the Migration Department systems,” said E. Grikšas.
“Such a system should probably have been implemented not within two weeks or two months, but it should have been implemented years ago,” he said.

BNS wrote that the General Prosecutor’s Office is investigating possible illegal logins and the appropriation of more than 600 thousand real estate register entries, including people’s personal codes.
According to law enforcement, the logins were made through “hacked” Migration Department employee accounts from abroad.
