As stated in the press release distributed on Friday, the Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Social Security and Labour, together with related institutions, to assess the situation and submit concrete proposals for necessary solutions in the near future.

According to him, recurring incidents, including the recent event in Marijampolė, show the need to systematically assess the causes of child violence and seek more effective measures to combat the problem.
As BNS wrote, last week in Marijampolė’s Poetry Park, a minor girl was beaten by her peers.
Other people nearby watched and filmed the incident, and a recording with violent images against the minor spread on social networks that same evening.
Currently, a pre-trial investigation is being conducted regarding the incident.
“High-profile cases of juvenile violence must not become a basis for unfounded generalizations and the demonization of young people, but it is obvious that we have a problem that needs to be solved,” said the head of government.
“It is important for institutions to clarify what kind of help parents, schools, and specialists working with children and teenagers need most today, how to notice early problems in young people’s behavior and environment before they become widely discussed outbreaks of violence, and to agree on how institutions themselves can cooperate more effectively,” he added.

According to M. Sinkevičius, the spread of images of juvenile violence online has become a separate challenge, due to which affected children may suffer repeated harm.
The report states that juvenile violent behavior and its prevention, the causes of emerging behavioral problems, and possible solutions encompass child and family welfare, education, health, law enforcement, self-government, and other areas, therefore, the aim is to evaluate the functioning of the entire system within a wide range of institutions and services.
As BNS announced, at the end of April, also in Marijampolė, at “Sūduva” gymnasium, a student born in 2009 injured three students with a knife.
Earlier, a similar incident was recorded at Vilnius Simonas Daukantas pro-gymnasium, when a student threatened classmates with a small knife.
