How to choose the right colors for your home?
A beautiful and cozy interior is created not only by furniture or decorations. Wall colors are equally important because they occupy a large part of the space and strongly affect the overall mood of the room.
In many modern homes, neutral shades prevail – white, sand, gray, or cream. They are easy to combine and help create a calm environment, but if there are too many neutral colors, the interior can look cold and dull.
On the other hand, too many bright or intense colors can be tiring and distracting. Therefore, the most important thing is to find a balance between calm, neutral tones and brighter accents.
Colors are also worth choosing according to the purpose of the room. In the bedroom or relaxation area, calmer, muted tones usually work better to help you relax. Meanwhile, in more active spaces, you can boldly use brighter colors.
In a study room or office, where concentration is important, you can choose light but not too intense shades. Nature-inspired colors, such as green, are especially suitable for this.
What is the 60-30-10 rule?
To create a harmonious interior, you can follow the simple 60-30-10 rule. It helps determine what proportion of the space should be occupied by different colors.

According to this rule:
- 60% of the space should be occupied by the main, dominant color;
- 30% – a complementary secondary color;
- 10% – brighter accents.
The dominant color is usually used on the largest surfaces – walls, large furniture, or floors. It creates the overall background of the room.
The secondary color should complement the main one but be expressive enough so the interior does not look monotonous. It can appear in curtains, rugs, armchairs, bedspreads, or other larger textile elements.
The remaining 10% is allocated to accents – cushions, vases, paintings, lamps, or other small details. This is where you can boldly choose brighter, contrasting colors.
It is also important that the 60-30-10 rule is not a strict formula. It rather helps maintain proportions and avoid overloading the space.
When choosing colors, it is also not necessary to blindly follow the currently trendy shades. It is much more important to choose tones that you enjoy living with and that help create the desired home atmosphere.
