Doctor: Donald Trump's health is excellent, but he needs to lose weight

This message was published after the annual health check-up of D. Trump, a few weeks before his 80th birthday.

Republican D. Trump, the oldest president ever sworn in, has repeatedly boasted about his mental and physical capacity, comparing himself to his predecessor, Democrat Joe Biden.

However, the medical and dental examination of D. Trump conducted on Tuesday at Walter Reed military hospital near Washington was held after questions arose about his apparent sleepiness during meetings and bruises on his hand.

“President D. Trump’s health remains excellent, he demonstrates strong heart, lung, neurological, and overall physical function,” said D. Trump’s doctor, U.S. Navy Captain Sean Barbabella, in a memorandum released by the White House.

The three-page memorandum reviews D. Trump’s physical examination and diagnostic tests, on the basis of which S. Barbabella concludes that the leader is “fully capable of performing all duties of the commander-in-chief and head of state.”

“Preventive counseling was provided, including advice on diet, recommendation to take a low dose of aspirin, increase physical activity, and continue to lose weight,” it states.

According to the memorandum, 191 cm tall D. Trump weighs 108 kilograms – 6.4 kilograms more than during the last comprehensive annual health check-up in April last year.

It is estimated that D. Trump’s heart age is “about 14 years younger than his chronological age.”

In the cognitive abilities assessment, D. Trump scored “30 out of 30.”

The president has spoken dozens of times about “passing” the cognitive abilities test, which he claims his predecessors did not pass.

“Frequent handshakes”

D. Trump, who will turn 80 on June 14, takes three medications, two of which are for cholesterol control, and the third is aspirin for “heart disease prevention.”

After returning to office, the Republican was often seen with bruises on his right hand, which were usually concealed with makeup.

“Examination of the backs of the hands revealed ecchymosis (bruising), consistent with minor soft tissue irritation related to frequent handshakes while taking aspirin for cardiovascular disease prevention,” the memorandum states about D. Trump’s hand bruises.

During several White House events, it was also noticed that the president closes his eyes for a few seconds, although he has repeatedly denied dozing off.

Last summer, the White House revealed that he was examined for leg swelling and diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency – a common condition where blood pools due to damaged vein valves, causing swelling, cramps, and skin changes.

This became apparent after D. Trump was seen several times with swollen ankles.

The memorandum also notes a “scar on the right ear consistent with a previous gunshot wound.”

In 2024, during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, an attempt was made on D. Trump’s life. An armed attacker fired several shots, killing one rally participant and lightly injuring the president’s ear.

“Perfect” health

In turn, shortly after the visit, D. Trump stated on his social network “Truth Social” that the Tuesday medical check-up went “PERFECTLY.”

Later, the White House posted his photo on social media with the caption: “PERFECT HEALTH CONDITION!”

After the president’s check-up, the US media reported that the White House broke precedent by not releasing the report until finally doing so after three days.

Usually, the White House publishes a summary of the president’s health check-up within hours or days, but the level of detail provided is at their discretion.

D. Trump has long been accused of a lack of transparency regarding his health, and the chronology of his various check-ups during his second term has only increased confusion.

He called Tuesday’s visit a “six-month check-up,” although earlier this month the White House presented it as an annual dental and medical check-up.

Tuesday’s medical check-up was the third since D. Trump’s return to office last year.

The last planned annual check-up took place in April last year. However, after that, an unplanned hospital visit followed in October of that year, which the White House also described as an annual check-up at the time.
