As reported by “Inside the Magic,” the main Disneyland amusement park located in Anaheim, California, USA, has officially closed the highly popular “Indiana Jones Adventure” attraction for visitors after more than 30 years. This was necessary due to planned extensive renovation work.
The attraction was closed on September 8, and various signs hinting at upcoming changes were posted around it.
“Attention! Tours are not running today,” one of them announces.
“Coming soon! Temple tours will resume this fall,” another reads.
One of the longest notices posted near the attraction contains an even more intriguing text:
“Coming soon! Join me on a wonderful journey through the Temple of the Forbidden Eye and take the opportunity to receive the legendary blessings of Mara: eternal youth, immense wealth, or a glimpse into the future. What could be more fun? Tours will begin in the fall of 1935!”
Opened in March 1995, the “Indiana Jones Adventure” immerses visitors in a wild ride reminiscent of a real “Indiana Jones” movie.
Following the great success of the first attraction, similar versions of the “Indiana Jones Adventure” were created in other Disney amusement parks.
An almost identical attraction can be found at Tokyo DisneySea, and a completely new “Indiana Jones” attraction is expected to open soon at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom park.
In recent years, Disney’s creative team, the Imagineers, have repeatedly improved the original attraction and addressed its technical maintenance issues. For example, the cinema-style introductory part was restored, the bridge effect was enhanced, and one of the attraction’s most iconic scenes featuring a rolling giant stone ball was updated.
So far, Disney has not officially announced when the “Indiana Jones Adventure” will reopen to visitors.
