This is the latest case in the recent intensified wave of executions related to espionage suspicions. Since February, when the war with Israel and the USA began, Tehran has been carrying out death sentences more frequently; many of the convicted were accused of cooperating with Israeli intelligence.

“Omid Behzadas and Pouria Safvatas (Purija Safvatas) were hanged this morning for passing coordinates of secret military and security facilities to Mossad agents,” reported the Iranian judiciary media outlet Mizan, referring to the Israeli foreign intelligence service.
The institution did not specify when the mentioned individuals were detained or when their trial took place, but confirmed that they were sentenced for “espionage and cooperation with the Zionist regime.”
“They helped those intelligence services achieve their goals by providing information about military and security centers during the war,” Mizan added.
The number of executions in Iran has increased since the war began, which started on February 28 after strikes by the USA and Israel, during which the then Iranian Supreme Leader was killed.

According to human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, Iran is the second country in the world by the number of executions carried out after China.
According to the Norway-based NGO Iran Human Rights and the Paris-based Together Against the Death Penalty (ECPM), Iranian officials executed at least 1,639 people last year – the highest number since 1989.
On Tuesday, Amnesty International condemned what the organization called an escalation in carrying out executions, as Iran announced the execution of two men convicted of participating in anti-government protests last winter.
