Cultural Attaché in Italy competition won by cultural project producer and translator Erika Lastovskytė

As reported by the institute on Wednesday, E. Lastovskytė scored the highest points among 35 candidates.

In 2014, E. Lastovskytė graduated with a master’s degree in English studies from Vilnius University, and also studied art history at the Aldo Moro University of Bari in Italy, deepening her knowledge of curatorship and cultural heritage.

She has been working with international cultural projects for more than 15 years, has been actively involved in the Italian cultural field since 2021, initiating and implementing projects that connect Lithuanian and Italian cultural institutions, creators, experts, and audiences.

In recent years, E. Lastovskytė has researched the connections between contemporary art and archaeology, curated an international residency program dedicated to the dissemination of Marija Gimbutienė’s heritage, and worked as the producer of the Lithuanian project at the 61st Venice Art Biennale in Italy.

“Next year Lithuania will chair the Council of the European Union, which will provide an exceptional opportunity to present Lithuanian culture to an international audience and seek new, multilateral formats of cultural expression. I see especially great potential in the dialogue between cultural heritage and contemporary creativity, as well as in the development of the internationalization of regional culture. I believe that the value of cultural diplomacy is created through long-term partnerships, trust, and consistent cooperation, so I consider the cultivation of sustainable ties between the cultural fields of Lithuania and Italy as the most important goal,” the new cultural attaché is quoted as saying in the statement.

The term of the cultural attaché is three years.

Currently, there are 11 positions in the Lithuanian cultural attaché network.

The candidate who wins the competition can start the position after receiving a personal reliability certificate issued in accordance with the law and with the approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
