The retail chain “Lidl” shares tips on how to effortlessly and affordably create a grill feast any evening of the week, avoid cooking mistakes, and surprise both the youngest and adult eaters, according to the retail chain’s press release.

How to choose the right sausages?

In stores, you will find sausages for almost every taste: from classic milk sausages or sausages with porcini mushrooms to spicier or dried ones. The main tip is to choose those marked as suitable for frying or grilling. They are usually a bit larger, with a firmer casing that does not crack during cooking and helps retain juiciness.

For a milder taste – milk sausages are perfect. For those seeking more piquant sensations – choose those with various seasonings.

Common grilling mistakes

No matter how simple it is to prepare sausages, a few common grilling mistakes can ruin even the best result. The first is too high a temperature. Sausages prefer medium heat: if cooked too quickly, they often burst or dry out, and the inside remains uncooked. So, it’s best to let them warm up a bit to room temperature before placing them on the grill.

Another common mistake is piercing with a fork. It’s understandable to want to check if the juices are flowing, but piercing damages the casing, and all the flavor is lost. Instead, use tongs and cook carefully, without damaging the surface.

Another mistake is forgetting the accompaniments. Properly chosen side dishes provide texture, freshness, and a pleasant taste contrast. Grilled vegetables, crispy croutons, a mildly spicy sauce, or even a few herbs – all of this elevates even the simplest sausage to a whole new level.

For Kids: Fun on a Plate: Classic Sausage Octopuses

You will need:

  • Milk sausages.
  • A drizzle of oil.
  • Sticks.
  • Fresh vegetables for garnish (short cucumbers, radishes, tomatoes).

Preparation:

Take a milk sausage and cut it from one end to the middle into four or six “legs”, then thread it onto a stick. When cooked, they will splay out and create an octopus effect – kids will be delighted! Ketchup can be drizzled on top for eyes, and serve with fresh vegetables. It is recommended to prepare the vegetables just before serving so that they remain crispy, juicy, and not dried out. Enjoy!

For Adults: Grilled Vegetable Skewers with Horseradish-Cheese Sauce and Crispy Croutons

This recipe is an interpretation of summer classics with flavor accents. It pairs perfectly with grilled sausages, and due to its versatility, it can even be served as a separate vegetarian dish.

You will need:

  • 1 small zucchini.
  • 1 red bell pepper.
  • 1 red onion.
  • A handful of cherry tomatoes.
  • 1–2 tablespoons of olive oil.
  • Salt, pepper to taste.
  • Wooden skewers.
  • Sausages.

For the sauce:

  • 1 tablespoon grated horseradish.
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese.
  • A drizzle of lemon juice.
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill.
  • A pinch of salt.

For the croutons:

  • 2–3 slices of seeded bread.
  • 1 tablespoon butter or olive oil.
  • 1 clove of garlic.

Preparation:

Cut the zucchini into half-moons or larger slices, the bell pepper into large squares, the onion into quarters, and leave the cherry tomatoes whole. Place everything in a bowl, drizzle with olive oil, season with salt and pepper, mix, and thread onto skewers. Grill on a preheated grill for about 7–10 minutes, turning every few minutes, until the vegetables are nicely browned but retain their shape.

Meanwhile, prepare the sauce. Mix all ingredients: grated horseradish, cream cheese, lemon juice, salt, and dill. Keep chilled until serving. Prepare the croutons. Lightly butter or oil the bread slices (you can rub them with garlic) and toast them on the grill for a few minutes until lightly browned and crispy.

Place the grilled vegetable skewers on a plate, alongside a couple of croutons and a spoonful of cold sauce. This is an excellent side dish for grilled sausages. Enjoy!
