After half of the events, the Lithuanian champion ranks 20th among the 25 decathlon athletes who started on Wednesday in Birmingham. A total of 23 athletes continue the competition.
27-year-old E. Benkunskas first competed in the 100 m sprint. The Lithuanian false started and was warned for a false start (false start). Ultimately, his time – 11.27 sec. – was 21st.
In the long jump, the Lithuanian finished one position lower (6.90 m).
However, he made up some ground in the shot put, where he was 9th (14.85 m).
The trainee of coach Indrė Jakubaitytė cleared 1.93 m on his first attempt in the high jump, but failed all three attempts at 1.96 m.
In the high jump event, E. Benkunskas took 11th place.
Finally, in the last event of the first day – the 400 m – the athlete ran in 50.29 sec., matching his best seasonal result, but only placed 22nd.
The remaining five decathlon events – 110 m hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw, and 1500 m run – await tomorrow. After them, E. Benkunskas’s final position will be revealed.
