Had to manage without electricity
Richard from Kaunas noticed during a storm when the power went out several times that his five-year-old gas boiler broke down, so his family had to manage without hot water for a while. Richard contacted the technician who installed the boiler, who identified the fault and filled out a defect report.
“I registered the damage, submitted the necessary documents and the defect report to the insurance company Compensa, and the damage was compensated within a day. I have no complaints – everything went very smoothly and quickly,” Richard said.
Previously, due to a neighbor’s flooded apartment, he had to contact the insurance company, and the problem was also resolved smoothly then, so he recommends insurance to everyone: “I would rate the service a ten – the most important thing is that when misfortune happens, everything is resolved smoothly and quickly.”
Nature’s force is hard to predict
At a homestead in the Kaunas district where Kazimieras spends weekends with his family, a tree growing in a nearby private forest fell into the yard during a storm. It broke part of the neat wooden fence. “Since the fence was maintained and recently renovated, I wanted to fix it so that the new part would match the rest as much as possible,” Kazimieras said.
The man submitted the necessary documents and photos to the insurance company, and the damage was compensated in just one day. Kazimieras said that after removing the fallen tree after the storm, fence repair work is underway.
Although he has been insured for several years, this was the first time he had to use the insurance himself. “Living at a homestead, you never know what might happen – a tree, lightning, fire – so it’s really important to insure against risks,” the interviewee noted.
Does not intend to risk property
Žydrutė, who lives in the Panevėžys district, was not home during the storm, so she only saw the aftermath when she returned. Furniture on the terrace was piled against the house wall, and boards torn from the terrace and roof eaves were scattered around.
“When it’s windy outside, because of the house’s location, it seems like nothing special is happening. And that time I wouldn’t have thought the storm could cause damage,” Žydrutė says. Although fixing the terrace won’t be difficult, she is more concerned about the roof eaves, part of which was torn off from the very top.
This was Žydrutė’s first damage due to a natural disaster, and she has been insuring her home every year for many years. “The damage is relatively small, but it’s in situations like these that you realize insurance is worth it,” the woman says.
Žydrutė shared that she was surprised by the speed of damage handling: after submitting information and photos, a claims specialist contacted her the next morning, and she received the insurance payout the same day. Although she sometimes hears from relatives that insurance might not be worth it, Žydrutė herself does not even consider not insuring. “You never know what might happen,” she says.
The risk is too great
Marius from Panevėžys found a neighbor’s trampoline in his yard after the last storm. The very strong wind carried it over the fence, and the trampoline’s impact damaged not only the house facade but also the gutter and roof, and several meters of thuja trees were broken. Marius has been insuring his home and property for about ten years. Initially, he insured the home when taking out a loan, later adding property insurance.
“An expert called in assessed the damage after the storm, and the losses were compensated very quickly,” Marius shared. The man says that after such an experience, he would recommend insurance to everyone, especially seeing how often natural disasters have caused property damage in Lithuania in recent years.
