It has been just over three weeks since the failures of our national men’s basketball team in Italy severely complicated the situation in securing a ticket to the 2027 World Cup.
During this time, many things have happened – the alleged resignations of Rimas Kurtinaitis and Tomas Pačėsas, the search for a new head coach and ongoing “consultations” with coaches, loudly voiced opposition thoughts about the need to change the leadership of the “Lithuanian Basketball” association, or even a possible player boycott.
However, ten days of Mindaugas Balčiūnas’ reflections brought no changes, the association and team leaders, maintaining a consistent direction, got to work outlining the team roster for the upcoming FIBA window, and talks of a possible boycott or protest vanished like smoke.

On Wednesday afternoon, “Lithuanian Basketball” issued a press release to the media, naming only four players who said “yes” to the national team.
These are Žalgiris players Arnas Butkevičius and Ąžuolas Tubelis, Vilnius “Rytas” leader Gytis Radzevičius, and “Milwaukee Bucks” representative Kasparas Jakučionis.
