The incident occurred on Monday near the town of Gedser. According to a later released Danish statement, a Danish Air Force AS-550 “Fennec” helicopter was fired upon while conducting a planned photography mission of a Russian Navy frigate that was in international waters.
The Russian ship fired two signal rockets at the Danish helicopter. One of them flew close to the helicopter.
After the incident, Danish Defense Minister Jeppe Bruus criticized Russia’s actions and informed that Denmark summoned the Russian ambassador for a discussion.

Meanwhile, a security analyst in a comment to “Postimees” urges NATO to take an appropriate response, warning that otherwise Kremlin provocations may only intensify.
