According to “Meteo LT”, a significant rise was observed in the following rivers:
- Šešuva near Skirgailai – up to 106 cm,
- Šyša near Šilutė – up to 64 cm,
- Bartuva near Skuodas – up to 58 cm,
- Neman near Panemunė – up to 48 cm,
- Jūra near Tauragė – up to 39 cm,
- Minija near Priekulė – up to 34 cm per day.
The situation is more complicated in several places:
- Flood water level reached in Leitė near Kūlynai and according to the latest data is – 259 cm (flood limit – 245 cm).
- Dangerous water level reached in Minija near Kartena – 501 cm (danger limit – 500 cm) and Šyša near Šilutė – 292 cm (danger limit – 255 cm, flood – 305 cm).
“Currently, the water level in many rivers in Western Lithuania is gradually falling. The rise still remains in Šyša near Šilutė and due to water flow from higher areas, a water level rise up to the flood level is possible in the afternoon hours.

Calmer weather is expected in the coming days, with no significant precipitation amounts forecasted. The water level drop in many rivers will continue,” says “Meteo LT”.
Precipitation amount – impressive
The first days of September were very rainy in parts of the country, and in some areas, dangerous rain intensity was reached.

“On average, 52 mm of precipitation fell in Lithuania, which accounts for 87% of the September monthly norm. In some parts of Western Lithuania, the entire monthly precipitation norm has already been reached. Because of this, the water level of local rivers and streams has risen sharply,” says “Meteo LT”.
From September 1–7 (until 9 a.m.), the most precipitation fell in:
- Plungė – 103.1 mm (126% of the September monthly norm);
- Telšiai – 91.3 mm (127% of the monthly norm);
- Vėžaičiai (Klaipėda district) – 87.6 mm (100%);
- Laukuva (Šilalė district) – 84.9 mm (123%);
- Tauragė – 74.7 mm (108%).
The least precipitation was measured in:
- Joniškis – 22.4 mm (49% of the September monthly norm);
- Biržai – 22.7 mm (51% of the monthly norm);
- Šiauliai – 31.1 mm (47%);
- Dūkštas (Ignalina district) – 31.2 mm (55%);
- Pakruojis – 32.9 mm (70%).
“Based on current data, the beginning of this week will be drier, with rain only in some places, but in the second half of the week, we will again see rain in many districts,” meteorologists do not promise long-term drier weather.
