The unveiling ceremony of the British star will take place on June 12 on the most famous street in Hollywood, with movie legend Tom Cruise and the player’s wife, former pop star and fashion designer Victoria Beckham attending.
The ceremony for the 51-year-old former England national team captain will take place just hours before the first matches of this year’s World Cup on US soil. This championship is jointly hosted by Mexico, Canada, and the US.
“David Beckham’s recognition with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the sports entertainment category comes at the perfect time as the US prepares to host the FIFA World Cup,” said Ana Martinez, a representative of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
“Beckham’s role in popularizing football in America and his long-lasting influence on sports, entertainment, and global culture make this award especially significant,” she said.
During his club career, D. Beckham played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, the US team LA Galaxy, and Paris Saint-Germain, where he ended his career in 2013.
Soon after, he became a co-owner of the US team Inter Miami CF, which signed a contract with Argentine superstar Lionel Messi and won the MLS Cup, the championship of the top professional soccer league in the US and Canada, last year.
D. Beckham, who was knighted last year by the United Kingdom’s King Charles III, also ventured into the entertainment industry and helped establish the content production company Studio 99 in 2019.
