One of the most effective methods is sowing green manure. Mustard and phacelia change the soil structure, making it less suitable for larvae development, while also increasing soil fertility. They are sown in early spring or after harvesting. Such cover crops suppress weeds and create unbearable conditions for click beetle larvae.
Vegetable baits
Vegetable pieces need to be buried about 10 cm deep. After a few days, they are dug up along with the larvae gathered around the bait. This allows for a quick reduction of pest numbers in the plot.
Reducing soil acidity
Click beetle larvae multiply especially actively in acidic soils. Therefore, it is recommended to regularly apply wood ash, dolomite flour, chalk, or lime. These natural remedies not only repel pests but also improve soil quality, making it more favorable for growing vegetables.

Eliminating bindweed
Bindweed is the favorite plant of click beetle larvae. If this weed remains in the plot, pests actively multiply even after weeding. Regular removal of bindweed roots and cleaning between rows helps significantly reduce the risk of crop damage.
Put onion skins into the hole
When planting potatoes or other crops, it is recommended to put onion skins into the holes. Their smell repels click beetle larvae and partially protects the tubers. A similar effect is produced by conifer needles and crushed flowers (carnations or sweet williams), which can also be used as natural protection.
