A Russian wanted for the murder of three people in Montenegro found dead, police say

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the suspected thirty-year-old Russian shot three shooting range employees in Danilovgrad, near the capital Podgorica.

After several hours of search involving special units and a helicopter, the suspect was found in the forest above the popular coastal tourist city of Herceg Novi, located more than 120 km from the crime scene.

“Surrounded, the suspect, seeing he had nowhere to run, opened fire on police officers, and then committed suicide with a rifle,” the police statement said.

The victims were two men from Podgorica, aged 20 and 24, and a 67-year-old man from Danilovgrad. The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle belonging to one of the victims.

No further information about the massacre in Danilovgrad is provided.

“The police, together with the Podgorica Higher State Prosecutor’s Office, continue the investigation to determine all the circumstances of the incident, including its cause and motive,” the police reported.

Montenegro Prime Minister Milojko Spajić expressed condolences to the victims’ families and declared two days of mourning in the country starting Tuesday.
