The multifunctional area includes basketball, football, tennis, padel, volleyball, shot put, and exercise equipment courts, as well as a modern running track.

The opening event of the sports ground was attended by the Minister of Education, Science and Sports Raminta Popovienė, Deputy Minister of National Defence Bronius Bieliauskas, Vilnius City Mayor Valdas Benkunskas, and representatives of the German Federal Ministry of Defence.
“We jointly care about the educational conditions for the children of German soldiers coming to Lithuania. I am glad that by working intensively with the Vilnius city municipality, we already have concrete, visible results. This sports ground was created with all the children who will play sports here in mind. It is a safe, modern space shared by students of the Lithuanian Centre for the Education of the Blind and Visually Impaired and the German School. I am confident that movement and sports will help these curious, young, energetic communities build new strong friendships,” said the Minister of Education, Science and Sports R. Popovienė.
According to Deputy Minister of National Defence B. Bieliauskas, the presence of the German brigade in Lithuania means not only more soldiers and more military infrastructure. It is also a shared life.
“Therefore, we must ensure that the families of soldiers coming to Lithuania can build their daily lives here, and their children can grow up together with Lithuanian children. Investing in such an environment is an investment in the long-term partnership and security of our countries,” said the deputy minister.
About 1 million euros of state budget funds are allocated for the project implementation. It was carried out by the Vilnius city municipality.
“The country’s security consists not only of military bases and training grounds – the living environment of soldiers and their families is also important. Most of the arriving soldiers’ families live in Vilnius, so we aim for our city to be not only a place of service but also a second home for them. This sports ground will contribute to ensuring the proper educational process for German children, which is important for the integration of soldiers’ families in Lithuania,” said Vilnius City Mayor V. Benkunskas.
Educational conditions for German soldiers’ children are being created consistently
The German school “Deutsche Schule Vilnius” and preschool and pre-primary education groups located in modular buildings next to LASUC, intended for the children of German soldiers serving in Lithuania, have been operating since September 2025.

This school year, 95 students started at the German School. Two combined primary classes are taught here, as well as classes following the basic education program. Children are taught by teachers who came from Germany. Older school-age children (gymnasium classes) of German soldiers study in private educational institutions in the capital, but it is planned that from the next school year they will also study at the German School.
Preschool and pre-primary education groups at LASUC are attended by 57 children of German soldiers, who are taught by qualified Lithuanian teachers fluent in German.
Funds for the establishment of schools and children’s education are provided by the Lithuanian state. In 2026, the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports approved 2.2 million euros of state budget funds for the development of educational infrastructure in Vilnius and Kaunas.
In Vilnius, it is planned to build a separate school and kindergarten by 2030 – currently, an architectural project competition for the Drujos St. complex is underway.
It is forecasted that from 2027, the number of German soldiers’ children educated in the capital may grow to 500.
In Kaunas, German soldiers’ children will be educated at Aleksandras Stulginskis School, and the former school building on Verkių Street will also be renovated – it is planned to be reconstructed by autumn 2028.
