What are the Lunar Nodes?
The lunar nodes, also called karmic, are not physical celestial bodies, but two astronomical points where the orbits of the Sun, Moon, and Earth intersect in space. They are always opposite each other in the Zodiac circle, and their usual movement is clockwise. Therefore, in the Zodiac circle, they seem to move against the traffic, as the planets move in a straight line counterclockwise. However, the lunar nodes oscillate – as if constantly engaging reverse gear to move slightly in the same direction as the planets, then returning to their usual movement.

In astrology, two methods are used to calculate the lunar nodes – “True” and “Mean.” Because of this, the date of their transition into another sign may differ in various sources. According to the “True Node” system, which I rely on, on July 27 the nodes’ axis moves from Pisces and Virgo signs to Aquarius and Leo signs. It will remain there for one and a half years – until March 26, 2028.
Lunar nodes work only in pairs
The lunar nodes are also described as two sides of an insatiable dragon devouring the light of luminaries. The North Node (also called Rahu or the Ascending karmic node) is the dragon’s head, which causes feelings of appetite, urgency, and ambition. The South Node (Ketu or the Descending karmic node) is the dragon’s tail, symbolizing release and cathartic liberation.
The South Node represents what is familiar – mastered talents, past habits, family and genetic baggage, and for believers in karma – the work of past lives. It acts as drainage – everything unnecessary flows out through it. When you do something skillfully but no one praises you for it, and you feel as if your energy source is drying up – that is the path of the South Node. You need to seek new paths where the Ketu story – skills and experiences – will serve as a stable foundation to lean on while traveling the path of the North Node.
Rahu is the soul’s evolution, the direction of the future, a thorny path bringing true reward and growth. It fills life with new opportunities. As the lunar nodes move through signs, they bring fateful events that change life priorities. When they are active (reach personal horoscope planets or other points), control is lost and a higher plan is activated, which cannot be managed.
When caught in the sight of these nodes, the best way to experience it is to consciously let go of what has expired. Delay means it will be taken away anyway. The North Node will only start to work when the South Node completes the cleansing tasks and creates space for growth.
Period axis: Leo and Aquarius signs
Currently, the lunar nodes are moving from mutable signs (Virgo and Pisces) to fixed signs (Leo and Aquarius). The first are flexible and adaptable, representing the seasonal changes in the annual cycle. The latter are stable signs marking midwinter and midsummer, which are not so easy to move. They are characterized by stubbornness and persistence, which will become the highest threshold in this one and a half year journey of the lunar nodes.
While the South Node is in Leo, empty dramatization, egocentrism, and the desire to be the center of attention will collapse. It will be necessary to give up dependence on others’ applause, arrogance, or inflated ego. In the entertainment industry or politics, fake leaders and fictitious stars will be removed from pedestals.

The North Node in Aquarius will gather teams, create communities, and foster global and innovative thinking. Eccentric, innovative, humanitarian ideas, equality, technology, and support networks will thrive. Since the lunar nodes work only in pairs, balance must be sought between cold intellect (Aquarius) and warmth of heart (Leo), between personal ambitions (Leo) and team needs (Aquarius).
Will the South Node suppress Jupiter’s joy?
Seeing Jupiter and the South Node in the same Leo sign raises the question: will the South Node hinder Jupiter from doing good work in Leo? Although at first glance it seems these two cosmic players contradict each other (Jupiter wants to expand and celebrate, while the South Node wants to cleanse and let go), in fact, they work together.
Jupiter in Leo gives courage, creative inspiration, and a desire to enjoy life. The South Node ensures that what is fake leaves this stage – cheap drama, empty arrogance, and the desire to dominate. When the nodes are near the Sun or Moon, eclipses occur. Therefore, most eclipses in the coming one and a half years will happen in Aquarius and Leo signs. If you were born under these signs or have planets and important points in your birth horoscope there, the eclipses will not go unnoticed.
Lunar eclipses invite you to close some pages of life, while solar eclipses coincide with essential life scenario turns. The nodes are called karmic, and eclipses have a fatalistic shade. The easier you let go of what has already fulfilled its mission and gratefully accept unexpected gifts of fate, the more successfully you will experience changes.
Leo and Aquarius are fixed signs, so do not rush – you have plenty of time until spring 2028. Focus on what is happening here and now. Watch your desires – are they just whims? Voluntarily give up what obviously no longer works and laugh at your ego more often – especially at moments when it tells you that there is not enough spotlight for everyone.
