In the women’s singles semi-final, the 24-year-old tennis player from Poland defeated Russian Diana Shnaider (WTA-23) with a score of 7:6(4), 6:4 and permanently wrote her name into the “Roland Garros” record books.
M. Chwalinska, who was at the beginning of the second WTA ranking hundred, had to start her journey in the French capital from the qualifying rounds, but now, having won her ninth consecutive victory, she became the first tennis player in “French Open” history to reach the final after starting from qualification.
Moreover, the petite 164 cm tall tennis player became only the third woman to reach the “Roland Garros” final in her debut appearance in the main tournament. So far, Evonne Goolagong (1971) and Chris Evert (1973) had managed to do this.
M. Chwalinska had not yet entered the Top 100 in her career, but now she is very close to the top 20 – currently, she is projected to be in 21st position.

So far, only British tennis star Emma Raducanu has managed to win a “Grand Slam” title after starting her journey from qualification. This happened in 2021 at the “US Open” tournament.
In Saturday’s final, M. Chwalinska will face another representative of the occupying country – Mirra Andreeva (WTA-8), who surprisingly easily defeated Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk (WTA-15) 6:1, 6:3.
