Upon inspection, it was revealed that they were hiding a significant illegal cargo – as many as 40 boxes of smuggled cigarettes. In total, 20 thousand packs of cigarettes marked with excise stamps of the Republic of Belarus were found.

According to preliminary data, the value of all found cigarettes, not marked with excise stamps of the sample established by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, amounts to about 100 thousand euros.
Investigators do not rule out the version that this cargo could have entered Lithuania in a now common way – using hot air balloons. This assumption was reinforced by the condition of the discovered boxes: they were tied two by two into one bundle, carefully wrapped in film, and prepared for attachment to balloons.

A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the illegal possession of excisable goods. The suspect faces a fine or imprisonment for up to eight years. The car used for smuggling is also confiscated.
