On Friday afternoon, the country’s basketball community was shaken by the news of Mindaugas Balčiūnas’s decision to resign from the position of president of “Lithuanian Basketball”.

This decision was announced by M. Balčiūnas, who was elected president in 2024, on his personal Facebook page.
He announced that he will leave the position from Monday and hand it over to the senior vice president. However, he did not specify exactly to whom. There are seven vice presidents in ALK: Remigijus Milašius, Šarūnas Kliokys, Rolandas Skaisgirys, Rimantas Cibauskas, Alina Adomaitytė, Tomas Pačėsas, and Gedvydas Vainauskas.
As 15min stated, the general secretary said the post will temporarily be offered to 68-year-old businessman Remigijus Milašius, who has been leading the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) since 2013.

“This provision is not formalized in the statutes. The senior member of the executive committee is Remigijus Milašius. I think Mindaugas will meet with him on Monday and temporarily hand over the president’s duties,” – 15min said D. Domarkas.
More details about the early ALK presidential elections should be revealed on Thursday.
“Elections will need to be organized as soon as possible,” – 15min said D. Domarkas. – “Of course, we will decide everything at the upcoming executive committee meeting on Thursday, including the deadlines and so on. We don’t have much time, the FIBA ‘window’ is approaching. There are still teams and other ongoing processes. There will be more comments on Thursday.”
