An oncology patient who tried to withdraw from the second stage: "Doubts arise whether I exist"

A man said he was diagnosed with cancer, so he decided to withdraw from the II pension pillar. Those withdrawing due to an illness listed in the official list of serious diseases can withdraw the entire accumulated amount tax-free – not only their contributions and investment returns, as when withdrawing due to the reform within a two-year window, but also the contributions from “Sodra” and the state.

“According to the code, my illness falls into the list of diseases officially published by the Government, based on which it is possible to stop accumulation in the II pension pillar. I tried to submit a request to stop accumulation due to illness in the bank app and was unpleasantly surprised. The bank rejected my request. The response was this – there is no data about my illness and health information in any state registers,” said Romualdas.

He said he once again checked the disease description and verified it – his disease code indeed falls into it. The health history contains a diagnosis – malignant tumor.

“I found a note in parentheses – an intervention must have been performed within the last 12 months. Since I was to be admitted to Santaros Clinics for surgery in a few days, I did nothing more at that time, thinking maybe that’s why the bank rejected my request, because there were no interventions.

A month passed after the surgery, but my situation did not change. The bank continued to reject requests. After contacting a bank consultant, I was advised to apply to “Sodra,” because they forward inquiries to “Sodra,” which then either approves or rejects requests. So, I went to the “Sodra” branch, but I got nowhere there either,” Romualdas continued.

The “Sodra” consultant explained to him that “Sodra” does not process or provide any documents to the bank – doctors need to upload them to e.health.

“I show a printed document from the same e.health with the code and the name of the surgery, but the answer is the same. We do not process or accept any documents – they must be visible in the electronic data system. The family doctor must do that. I go to the clinic. The family doctor opens the e.health portal and shows the same thing I see when logged into the e.health self-service. The entire disease history is there, all codes are visible, the surgery description is also there. Even the medicines bought at pharmacies are there. She doesn’t understand what and where else needs to be uploaded if everything is already uploaded,” Romualdas did not know where to turn.
