„We compared, optimized processes and thus saved three years, because it was planned that the southern bypass would be completed and traffic opened in 2035. By comparing and optimizing processes, we reached 2032 – meaning, traffic will be opened and it will be built in 2032,“ – J. Taminskas told journalists on Tuesday.

The minister did not explain exactly which processes were optimized.
He added that, in agreement with the Ministry of Finance, his ministry will submit to the Government in the coming weeks a long-term state road network renewal program under the public-private partnership model (PPP), which includes the Klaipėda southern bypass in the first phase.
Moreover, according to the minister, modeling of the Jakai roundabout reconstruction in Klaipėda has been carried out.
„Modeling has also been done regarding the Jakai roundabout, and this Thursday the mayor of Klaipėda city (Arvydas Vaitkus – BNS) will visit Vilnius. We will present possible options on how to manage the Jakai roundabout, because the Jakai roundabout today faces very serious challenges, as during the morning peak alone, an average five-kilometer traffic jam forms from the (road – BNS) A13 from Palanga,“ – emphasized J. Taminskas.
According to the minister, the reconstruction of the Jakai roundabout will reduce traffic jams on Šilutė road, whose reconstruction is also expected to be completed in 2032.
„The reconstruction of Šilutė road is planned in parallel with the southern bypass – it must be resolved by 2032,“ – said J. Taminskas.
The state road manager “Via Lietuva” announced in January this year that necessary territory planning for the Klaipėda southern bypass has already begun, and the process will last about two more years.
The bypass will connect the city of Klaipėda and the seaport area with the state importance regional road from Klaipėda to Kaunas via Šilutė and Jurbarkas.
The 6.8-kilometer-long southern bypass is included in the list of sections of the East-West transport corridor in Lithuania and is classified as a project of special state importance.
