“Science gains the greatest value when the knowledge it creates reaches people and helps better understand the world around us. This is also reflected in this year’s slogan. We want to open the university and show that science is not something distant or too complicated – it is a living process of discovery in which everyone can participate,” says Prof. Dr. Aelita Bredelytė, head of the Klaipėda University STEAM Methodological Center.

During the event, visitors will be able to perform an experiment with glowing bubble tea in the dark, create a moving lava lamp, make chemical slimes, try out a wind tunnel, and participate in experimental activities that help understand radiation. Young visitors will enjoy creating glowing tattoos and meeting the transformer Kamane, while DJ music will set the mood throughout the evening.
Two chemistry shows, where science moves from the laboratory to the stage, will be among the brightest highlights of the evening. Chemical reactions, light, colors, and unexpected effects will allow seeing up close how what is usually presented in textbooks and formulas can turn into an impressive spectacle.
European Researchers’ Night is one of the largest science popularization initiatives in Europe, attracting more than 1.5 million people annually. Events held on the same day across all European countries invite the public to get acquainted with science, researchers, and their work.

The 2026 and 2027 European Researchers’ Night events in Lithuania, the year-round initiatives “Researchers at Schools” and “Science Communication Academy” are united by the project “CITIES-IN-STEAM,” coordinated by Klaipėda University. The project also involves Vilnius University, Vytautas Magnus University, Mykolas Romeris University, and the Science and Innovation Dissemination Center “Science Island.” The project is funded by the European Union’s research and innovation program “Horizon Europe” under the “Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions” measure “MSCA and Citizens.”
The “Researchers at Schools” initiative strengthens the connection between scientists, schools, and society, provides students with the opportunity to meet researchers directly, and shows how scientific research relates to today’s challenges and everyday life.
“European Researchers’ Night 2026” will take place on September 25 from 5 p.m. at the Klaipėda University campus, H. Manto St. 84. The event is free and intended for the whole family.
