M. Repšys won two Lithuanian film awards “Silver Crane” for best male roles in the films “The Saint” and “Ten Reasons”, both also directed by A. Blaževičius. He is best known for his cult character Vandal in Oskaras Koršunovas’ play “The Exile”, in which the actor has been performing for 16 years.

“I am always offered to play various types of bandits or other villains. In the film ‘Divorce During the War’ I wanted to escape the usual villain role. I think I succeeded. An educated director is an empathetic, full-blooded character who gradually reveals himself more and gains more self-confidence during the film,” the actor says.

Do we know how to live in a relationship with a partner?

The love drama tells the story of Marija, who works in an advertising agency and decides to divorce the director Vytas. She chooses the most inappropriate time to take this step.

According to M. Repšys, this film is about relationships, the lack of communication between two people, unresolved problems they both avoid talking about. “Many will recognize the situations the characters find themselves in. About how we don’t communicate, everything accumulates, and then comes the desire to divorce. Then it is insanely difficult to fix the broken glass, but there is still hope,” says the actor.

He notes that nowadays everyone is in a hurry to divorce without openly laying out everything that lies on their heart, without taking any additional steps to save the family.

“Just a little something uncomfortable and people are already divorcing. They think they will find something better, but with a new partner they come back to the same relationship dead end. I tell everyone – learn to live in relationships. In the film ‘Divorce During the War’ this theme is shown very realistically and recognizably,” says the actor.

Like a housewife in the film

M. Repšys plays in the third feature film by A. Blaževičius. “I remember in the first film ‘The Saint’ there was an economic crisis, gloomy colors, my character was so grumpy. In ‘The Runner’ – psychological challenges. ‘Divorce During the War’ – a different period, the present, again global challenges, this time more colors on the screen, because our lives are changing, improving, and I am so calm, as Marija says – not a man, but a housewife,” the actor compares the roles with a smile.
