On the first evening of “Vilnius Days,” September 4th, different worlds of contemporary music met on the main festival stage in Cathedral Square.

On Friday at 9 p.m., “Kamanių šilelis” performed here, and at 10 p.m. – Free Finga. Two prominent names in contemporary Lithuanian music brought different sounds to Cathedral Square – from indie folk and electronics to R&B.

Vilnius symbols lit up the night sky
Moreover, the sky near the White Bridge was illuminated by a 15-minute drone show, which this year replaced the previous laser performances. The drone light spectacle above the city tells the story of Vilnius – viewers can see the city’s symbols and recognizable views of the capital.
The drone show is also scheduled for Saturday.

“Kamanių šilelis” – in search of new sounds
“Kamanių šilelis” is celebrating 15 years of creative work this year and has already held the biggest concert of their career, “Ritualai,” in Vilnius. After that, the duo feels even bolder experimenting with sound and searching for new forms. The group, distinguished by combinations of indie folk, art pop, and electronics, is currently working intensively on a new album, which, as they say, will not lack unexpected solutions. The changing sound is also reflected in this year’s released track “Burning Birds.” The duo revealed their search for new musical territories in a program specially prepared for “Vilnius Days.”
On Friday evening at 9 p.m., the duo presented not only well-known songs but also new ones that the audience heard for the first time. The program included various moods – from sensitive moments to intense and lively sounds.
“We want this concert to be not just another performance but a program specially created for Vilnius and this occasion,” said the members of “Kamanių šilelis.”
The group invited both their most loyal listeners, whose energy makes concerts a special experience, and those who are discovering their music for the first time to Cathedral Square.
By the way, “Kamanių šilelis” member Kamilė Gudmonaitė stepped onto the stage in Cathedral Square after recent personal life changes – at the end of August, she married conductor Ričardas Šumila.
Free Finga – a new creative stage
That same evening, at 10 p.m., the main stage was taken over by an artist whose work has become an integral part of contemporary Lithuanian music in recent years – Free Finga. This year he entered a new creative stage and presented a track with a different sound, “Sad!,” where dance-inviting music meets complex and uncomfortable themes. The tracks from the album “Plastika” remain an important part of his concert program. The artist is preparing for his widest concert tour to date – in October, he will perform in Berlin, Amsterdam, London, Oslo, and Warsaw, followed by 10 concerts in Lithuania.

But before the international tour, Free Finga first took the “Vilnius Days” stage – in Cathedral Square, he gave a strong summer closing concert. This time, percussionist Dovydas Šulskis joined the artist’s team.
“On the main festival stage, we want to use all our trump cards,” said Free Finga, whose energy and stage charisma became one of the brightest highlights of the first festival day.
According to the artist, playing in Cathedral Square is a great privilege because it is one of the most important spaces in the capital where you can share your music and what you want to say.
Free Finga hoped that people who have not yet heard him live would come to the concert.
“I hope to knock on their hearts with at least one song,” added the artist, whose special relationship with his native Vilnius often transfers into his work.
He observes the city not only as a daily environment but also as a constant source of inspiration – his music reflects what he discovers while cycling, capturing city details, moods, and thoughts and messages hidden in its various spaces.
“Vilnius Days” will continue until Sunday – the capital will be full of music, sports, cultural events, and opportunities to rediscover the city.
Concerts in Cathedral Square will also take place on Saturday evening: at 8 p.m., Justinas Jarutis will perform here, and at 9 p.m. – Donatas Montvydas.
