The funeral date will be announced later.
A. Khamenei, who led the Islamic Republic for almost 37 years, was killed in his home in central Tehran on February 28.

The state funeral, originally planned for March 4, was postponed due to the war.
“A three-day public funeral is planned,” state television quoted Tehran’s deputy mayor Mohammad Amin Tavakolizadeh on Tuesday.
He did not specify when the funeral would take place but said it could be held at the beginning of Muharram – the first month of the Islamic calendar, which begins in mid-June.

According to him, funeral events will take place in Tehran as well as in the holy cities of Qom and Mashhad. A. Khamenei will be buried in the latter.
“The ceremony in Tehran will last at least 24 hours,” M. A. Tavakolizadeh said, adding that up to 20 million people are expected to attend.
