“There are not just one or a few measures. I am glad that some measures reflect the views of both the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats and the chairman Laurynas himself,” said M. Sinkevičius.

“Therefore, I want to believe that there will be support for these initiatives in the Seimas, including from the opposition,” he added.
The government promises to focus on family promotion policy until the end of the term in 2028.
“Whether this will later turn into a political agreement, because naturally we cannot solve demographic issues within one or the remaining two years of the term, we will probably return to this issue a little later,” said M. Sinkevičius.
The ruling party has already spoken about a party agreement on demographics, but the conservatives have prepared their own version of such a document.
M. Sinkevičius admitted that the ruling coalition and the opposition have differences of opinion regarding family promotion, but expressed hope that this will not prevent the parliamentary minority from supporting those initiatives which it essentially agrees with.
The prime minister also said he hopes politicians will not start “competing over the authorship” of the proposals.
“I see no point in competing over who is first, who is the proposer, who is the author, and who is the co-author. What matters is that these issues get resolved,” said the prime minister.
He did not specify concrete proposals yet, but the ruling party had earlier promised a more generous child care benefit system, and M. Sinkevičius spoke on Friday about the current lack of funding to help young families purchase housing.
L. Kasčiūnas also did not reveal more precise proposals but confirmed that some of them coincide with plans previously submitted by the conservatives.
“I heard certain measures that truly reflect and correspond to what we propose, and I definitely agree that we should not think about who proposed first, but move forward together,” said the conservative leader.
According to L. Kasčiūnas, some important areas, such as defense and demographics, “should be taken out of the political competition field” so that agreements can be reached and decisions in these areas can proceed smoothly.
However, the parliamentarian said that the party has not yet promised specific support for the government’s proposals, first wanting to see the full content of the family package.
