“This year, responding to the needs of society, we have made research related to drug use a priority,” R. Sarapas told the radio station “Laluna” news.

According to him, the collected data shows that the scale of use is huge.
Last year, there were 245 cases recorded where a person had a small amount of narcotic substances for personal use. This year, during the same period – 321.

The number of pre-trial investigations into drug distribution or transportation in larger quantities has increased significantly. Last year, 45 pre-trial investigations were initiated, this year during the same period – 68.
“The numbers indicate very well and show an upward curve, i.e. society should be very concerned,” said R. Sarapas.

According to him, parents should be more attentive and watch who their children spend time with, and what they carry in their pockets.
“When officers meet teenagers on the streets, they immediately see how they behave: they start fidgeting, drop something on the ground, run away. The scale of use should already worry society, it worries us,” said the head of the police station.
The officer urges everyone who has information about persons possibly distributing narcotic substances to report it to the police trust phone line “Narkotikams NE”. This year, the Klaipėda County VPK received 38 reports and based on the information received, started 9 pre-trial investigations.
