Another portal interlocutor, familiar with the heads of Russian propaganda, confirmed that if earlier the top channel figures were only periodically accompanied by security subordinate to the “Rosgvardiya,” now the presence of the so-called “siloviki” has become much more noticeable.

The protection of propagandists began to be strengthened in the first months of the war, but at that time such measures affected only the most well-known among them. For example, RT’s chief editor Margarita Simonyan has publicly spoken about this after Darya Dugina – the daughter of philosopher and the so-called “Russian world” idea author Alexander Dugin – died in a car explosion in August 2022.

In April 2023, the “Z” blogger Vladlen Tatarsky (also Maksim Fomin) was killed in an explosion at a café in Saint Petersburg. In May of the same year, a bomb detonated in a car intended for propagandist Zakhar Prilepin – he was seriously injured, and his driver was killed.
