D. Trump congratulated Ukraine on behalf of the American people, recalling the “strong friendship” between Kyiv and Washington, and also emphasizing the “brave, courageous, and talented people who created a great country.”

“On this important date, know that the United States admires your resilience, respects your sacrifices, and maintains confidence in your future as a sovereign and prosperous state,” wrote D. Trump.
He also urged to take this opportunity to put an end to the war and create a “strong, lasting foundation of peace that would reveal Ukraine’s enormous potential to future generations.”
“Lifts our spirit”
V. Zelensky thanked D. Trump for the greeting and compared it to the sound of the launch of Patriot PAC-3 missile systems.
“These words, like the sound of the launch of the Patriot PAC-3 missile, lift our spirit and give hope that people’s lives can be protected from cruel Russian attacks and that a dignified peace is possible,” wrote V. Zelensky.

On August 24, the newspaper The Times reported that Kyiv, together with representatives of US President Donald Trump and European officials, prepared a joint plan to end the war. It envisages a ceasefire, mutual withdrawal of Russian and Ukrainian forces from the front line, and the creation of a buffer zone.
The publication also noted that on August 24 a Vatican representative arrived in Russia, leading to speculation that he might deliver these proposals to the Russian side. Vatican Secretary for Relations with States Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher is scheduled to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday.
On August 11, V. Zelensky stated that Ukraine’s negotiation team had submitted proposals to the US regarding further actions aimed at increasing pressure on Russia and bringing the war to an end.
The Ukrainian president said he had received a report from the negotiation team on the progress of talks with the US side.
