"Help, we are in danger": family waits three days for ESO to remove cut wires from the yard

“For the third day now, I have been alone with the children without electricity. Fallen wires lie on the ground in the yard. ESO says the case is urgent but tells us to wait until the 28th. Please help, because we are in danger,” – called for help on Monday evening to 15min Sigutė.

She said that electricity went out during the storm on Saturday, and soon she saw that the cause was a tree that had fallen on the wires near the house and broke them.

“The entire electrical wiring system is broken. Those wires are now scattered around the yard and no one does anything. I have been registering and calling for the third day, but ESO says – you are in the priority queue, we will come. On Sunday, I received a message that they should come on Monday, and on Monday – that it will be by the 28th,” – the woman did not hide her despair.

She claims to have contacted ESO about 50 times and also called the emergency number 112, but the answer is the same – wait. Sigutė says she does not understand how long she can wait because even ESO admits the situation is dangerous – the company’s consultants instructed the family to keep an 8-meter distance from the broken wires.

“How can I keep that distance when the pole is 4-5 meters from the house? And since it goes diagonally across the plot, I can’t even cross it. There are children, a dog. I can still hold back the children – of course, they won’t go, but the dog… I understand that it is dangerous – the wire is broken, still sparking, the grass is wet – not a pleasant situation. I hoped it would be fixed on Saturday evening, maybe Sunday morning, but when the answer came that only on the 28th…” – Sigutė was upset.

The woman has been living without electricity for three days but said that although she experiences inconveniences, this is not the main problem – the generator somewhat helps in this situation.

“The most painful thing is the indifference of the services – we pay quite a lot to ESO, and when real help is needed, you get the answer: ‘We will help on the 28th.’ It’s frustrating,” – Sigutė did not hide her disappointment.

15min contacted ESO for a comment – once received, we will update the publication.

Still tens of thousands without electricity

The storm that raged in Lithuania on Saturday left about 270,000 users without electricity – on Tuesday morning, a little more than 93,000 users still had no electricity.

However, the company “Energy Distribution Operator” (ESO) lacks the capacity to quickly fix very large-scale line damages, and in some places, it may take up to a week.
