„My knowledge says that everything is positive, there will be US soldiers in Lithuania – just as promised,“ the general said in an interview with BNS.
He stated that he could not specify either exact numbers or dates.
BNS wrote that currently the United States is reviewing the presence of its troops in Europe. More than a thousand American soldiers completed their rotation in Lithuania this summer, but some of them remained in the country.
“The new rotations (soldiers – BNS) have already arrived and they are – the frontline groups responsible for reception. We have that element, everything is in order there. They oversee the barracks we have built, they oversee the equipment park, they oversee the equipment and machinery that is still left, so everything is fine. And they are preparing specifically for the arrival of the new rotation,” said the military commander.
Americans have regularly deployed battalions of soldiers in Lithuania since 2019. When Russia invaded Ukraine, Washington changed its troop status in Lithuania to continuous rotational deployment.
These reinforced battalions usually consisted of a thousand or more soldiers with various combat equipment. Lithuania has indicated that it is ready to host up to 1,500 US soldiers.
