The strongest basketball league in the world announced on social media that the courts of the New York Knicks’ home Madison Square Garden and the San Antonio Spurs’ fortress Frost Bank Center will be marked during the finals series with a huge Larry O’Brien trophy in the center of the court and iconic “The Finals” inscriptions on the edges.

Fans last saw the Larry O’Brien trophy awarded to the champions in the center of the court during the 2009 finals series, where the Los Angeles Lakers led by Kobe Bryant and the Orlando Magic led by Dwight Howard competed.
This special feature was used in the NBA finals from 2005 to 2009, but in recent years NBA fans demanded its return and finally got their way.
Meanwhile, the “The Finals” inscription decorated the courts of NBA finalists’ arenas from 1989 to 2014, but in the last decade the NBA decided to abandon it.

Before making this decision, the NBA considered that the finals games could take place on specially painted courts, but ultimately it was decided to bring back the accents used several years ago.
The NBA finals between the Spurs and the Knicks will start in San Antonio on the night from Wednesday to Thursday at 3:30 a.m. Lithuanian time.
