From August 29 to September 12, exclusive tours and educational activities will take place in Vilnius, Kaunas, Šiauliai, Radviliškis, Švenčionėliai, and other places in Lithuania, including three unique train journeys, according to a press release from “Lithuanian Railways”.

This year, visitors will find 11 educational tours in the program, 6 of which are presented to the public for the first time. One of the main highlights of the program will be the special train trip over the Lyduvėnai Bridge on September 5 – a route not usually served by regular passenger trains.
“For many, the railway is primarily a train, a station, and a journey from point A to point B. However, behind every journey lies a huge system often invisible to passengers – people, technology, infrastructure, and depots. On Railway Workers’ Day, we want to open the doors to this world and show what happens behind them,” says Aleksandras Zubriakovas, Director of Corporate Affairs at LTG.
Exclusive journeys accompanied by guides’ stories
One of the most anticipated Railway Workers’ Day events is the rare opportunity to embark on educational train journeys along routes usually not served by passenger traffic. This year, three exclusive tours have been prepared: Lyduvėnai Bridge – the legendary steel path, rails through Kaunas and the airport, and around the unseen southern part of Vilnius.
During the trips, participants will see unique railway infrastructure objects, historic stations, and places usually inaccessible to passengers. The guides’ stories will reveal not only the most interesting facts of railway history but also help better understand how the railway shaped city growth, connected regions, and became an integral part of Lithuania’s progress.
Depots, stations, and factories will open their doors
Over two weeks, the LTG group will invite visitors to 20 tours across Lithuania. The number of participants is limited, and registration is required for the tours – all information and tour times can be found here.
Among the most popular locations is the Vilnius locomotive repair depot. It is one of the oldest and largest railway maintenance and repair bases in Lithuania. Here, tour participants will get acquainted up close with modern railway technologies and see how locomotives are maintained and repaired.
For the first time, the “voestalpine Railway Systems Lietuva” factory will open its doors to the public, where modern railway solutions are designed and manufactured, used both in Lithuania and various countries worldwide.
Visitors will also be invited to get acquainted with the Švenčionėliai and Šiauliai railway stations, the Radviliškis railway junction, walk across the Lyduvėnai railway bridge, and attend special educational sessions at the Railway Museum.
