Those who want to say “goodbye” aloud to the poet can do so by coming to St. John’s Church. Her relatives, friends, and admirers of her talent gather here.
Upon arrival at the church, one can see heart-wrenching details: an exceptional urn with a bird immersed in flowers, V. Palčinskaitė’s books, received awards, and other items dear to her.

On Tuesday, farewells to the poet can be made until 8 p.m., but the farewell will continue on Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m.
After it ends, Holy Mass will be offered immediately. The urn will be carried out at 12 o’clock, and at 2 p.m. V. Palčinskaitė will be buried at Petrašiūnai Cemetery in Kaunas.
“Let’s honor Violeta with a summer flower,” invited representatives of the publishing house “Tyto alba.”
Žmonės.lt reminds that on Friday evening sad news spread – the poet, writer, and playwright Violeta Palčinskaitė passed away. She was 82 years old.
In 2023, V. Palčinskaitė received the Lithuanian National Culture and Art Prize.
At that time, she stated she was honored.
“I don’t know if I deserved it, I don’t think about myself that way, but I am definitely very honored. It lifts the spirits, whatever you say, a kind word, encouragement always means a lot to an artist,” writer V. Palčinskaitė told BNS.
“How, I would be lying if I said it doesn’t matter to me – I was very happy because I didn’t really expect it. Children’s literature is not that very noticed,” said the writer, who received this news from the publisher.

The prize was awarded to the creator for lifetime achievements – it was recognized for “the playfulness of imagination for several generations of readers and the testimony of multifaceted experience in memoirs.”
More than one generation of Lithuanian children grew up reading the works of poet and playwright V. Palčinskaitė.
Earlier, V. Palčinskaitė mentioned that the decision to become a writer was influenced by her childhood and the books she read.
“There was a lot of parental love in my childhood room, so a lot of joy… Many dolls. Many different games. Many books. And you will be surprised that there was one more very important item for me: a real medical syringe! Of course, without a needle. In childhood, I wanted to be a doctor. I thought my cat Murza was very lacking in vitamins. So, a close family friend, doctor Gimžauskas, gave me that longed-for item for my birthday. There were no toy syringes then. I felt so indescribably happy that I even promised not to resist if I had to be given some vitamins myself…” V. Palčinskaitė recounted.
V. Palčinskaitė was born on November 20, 1943, in Kaunas. From 1960 to 1964, she studied at Vilnius University. After graduating, she became a member of the Lithuanian Writers’ Union.
V. Palčinskaitė was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Vytautas the Great, the Children’s Literature Prize, the Lithuanian Government’s Culture and Art Prize, and the Lithuanian National Prize.
