“Kalnėnai is growing, more and more young families are moving here. Besides the progymnasium already being built in Pavilnys, we want children in Kalnėnai to be able to study as close to home as possible,” said Deputy Mayor Vytautas Mitalas in a statement.

The project developer Vilnius Development Company (VVK) told BNS that the contractor tender is planned to be announced soon, and the project cost will be known after the tender ends and the contract with the contractor is signed.

It is planned that a building with a total area of 14.2 thousand square meters will be built on Moravų Street. In its southeastern part, there will be a two-story kindergarten, in the center – a three-story primary school, and in the southwestern part – a two-story sports hall.

Kalnėnai is dominated by low-rise buildings, small structures, so such a composition breaks down the scale of the building and helps it blend into the environment, the statement said.

The school will have its own territory in the inner courtyard, where two outdoor classrooms, sports fields, playground equipment, a garden, an orchard, and other zones are planned.

The architectural concept of the building was created by the architecture firm “A2SM”.

The future kindergarten-school is one of nine educational institutions being developed with funds from loans by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB).

BNS wrote that in January this year, Vilnius Development Company (VVK) announced that it had borrowed 168 million euros equally from the EIB and NIB for the construction of nine schools and kindergartens. The banks signed 23-year contracts with VVK’s subsidiary “Vilnius Education Infrastructure,” established last October, responsible for project implementation and financing – it will handle both the construction of buildings and their administration and maintenance.
