Žolinė – one of the four free fishing days
The amateur fishing rules in inland waters provide that on August 15, all persons have the right to fish for free in state water bodies where amateur fishing is not prohibited and limited fishing is not organized.

This information is also published by the Ministry of Environment. The ministry reminds that free fishing is allowed not only on Žolinė, but also on February 16, March 11, and July 6.
However, there is one important condition
The word “free” in this case does not mean that on August 15 you can fish in any water body without a permit.
The exception for free fishing applies to state water bodies where amateur fishing is not prohibited and limited fishing is not organized.
If limited fishing is organized in a specific water body, the fact that it is Žolinė does not exempt from the obligation to have the necessary permit.
Free fishing on August 15 is also allowed in the water bodies of the Nemunas Delta Regional Park where amateur fishing is not prohibited, except for the water bodies of the Krokų Lanka botanical-zoological reserve.
It is also important that free fishing does not mean that other amateur fishing rules no longer apply. Fishermen must comply with all established requirements even on this day.
Where to check if free fishing is allowed in a specific water body?
If there are doubts about a specific lake, river, or other water body, it is worth checking the applicable conditions before going fishing.
The Environmental Protection Department (AAD) indicates that information about limited fishing in leased water bodies can be found on the Ministry of Environment’s website.
Meanwhile, the conditions for limited fishing in non-leased state water bodies are established according to the “Description of the procedure for organizing and conducting limited fishing in inland waters, setting, announcing, and revoking limited fishing regulation measures and conditions.”
From August 15 – strengthened control
There is another reason to check fishing conditions more carefully before Žolinė. AAD reports that from August 15 to September 15, control of limited fishing will be strengthened.
Environmental officers will conduct raids and check whether fishermen have the necessary permits, comply with established conditions, and other requirements.
