What Zelensky said
On August 11, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the country’s negotiation team had conveyed proposals to the US regarding further actions aimed at increasing pressure on Russia and bringing the war to an end.
The Ukrainian president said he had received a report from the negotiation team about the progress of talks with the American side.
“We have conveyed our proposals to the American side,” said V. Zelensky.
He noted that the US can help Ukraine strengthen its defense, especially in the field of air defense. At the same time, Kyiv hopes that Washington will use its influence to pressure Moscow to change its stance and prevent further prolongation of the war.
In an interview with CNN published on August 12, V. Zelensky did not disclose details about the new proposals for the peace process but noted: “We need more active involvement from the American side in the peace plan.”
“I am grateful to [US President Donald] Trump’s team for wanting to continue. [Russian leader Vladimir] Putin does not want to stop this war now, and he is currently under insufficient pressure,” he said.
On July 23, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, after meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in the Philippines, stated that peace talks on Ukraine will require “new ideas” to get out of the deadlock.
