From impressive stages to dancing on the beach
This name hardly needs an introduction to electronic music fans. The project born in Tulum, Mexico, has grown into a global phenomenon over the years, attracting house and techno music lovers who travel thousands of kilometers. Impressive stages, light and video installations, exotic locations, and the most famous names in electronic music have become a kind of “Zamna” calling card.
“Zamna” festivals are held every year in different corners of the world, with a unique experience created for each location. However, alongside the large, visually stunning events, “Zamna” offers music fans a different format – much lighter, summery “beach” parties.
There is no aim here to replicate the monumental stages rising in the Tulum jungle. The party, which starts during the day, takes place on the beach, and its atmosphere is created not only by music but also by the sun, sand, and sea. This is the face of “Zamna” that Goda experienced this summer in Malta.
Dancing begins before sunset
Among the many “Zamna” locations, Goda consciously chose Malta. She has visited the island several times and admits – she simply likes this place. However, this trip had an additional purpose – the opportunity to combine a vacation with a party of the global “Zamna” project.
“This type of trip format has its advantages: during the day, you can dedicate time to new places, rest, and exploring the island, and in the evening – to music and entertainment. Thus, one event becomes not just a few hours of partying but part of the entire travel experience,” says Goda.
Although before the trip Goda had already seen impressive images from “Zamna”‘s birthplace Tulum, in Malta she encountered a very different face of this global project. Less festival scale, more summery lightness – daytime dancing, heat, beach, and sea. That day, the thermometer rose to 35 degrees, so between dances it was possible to cool off briefly in the water and then return barefoot over the sand to the music.
“We just landed at the airport and immediately ran to the party – it started at 4 p.m. and lasted until midnight. I like such parties the most because in the evening you don’t want to sleep yet, you stay lively, and the next day you can rest and travel around Malta,” shared the girl. She adds that Malta is a very touristy place, so it was fun to see people from different countries at the party.
“‘Zamna On The Beach’ in Malta is held not for the first time, so at the party Goda got to meet locals who had participated before and people from various countries. Different countries, different groups, but the beach dictated its own rules – a freer atmosphere, more communication, and less formality.
“There were quite a few acquaintances made during the party. It was nice to meet, chat, and talk with more than fifty people. I was surprised that many of them were from Brazil, and all party participants were very open, positive, and happy to socialize. They approached, asked questions, showed interest. People were stylish and relaxed, and the environment was wonderful. The party took place on the beach, so between dances it was possible to go for a swim in the sea. A true beach party,” said Goda.

The music, as the girl says, was just as she expected, light techno, and she heard many tracks she listens to herself, so she was very pleasantly surprised.
“Music can be great, but if there are no interesting people around and energy that draws you in, the evening may never really get going. In Malta, all these details came together. I hardly even have anything to compare it to – I may have never experienced such a party atmosphere in Lithuania,” said Goda, returning from the trip.
Goda remembered not only the party format itself but also its timing. The music on the beach started playing in the afternoon – around 4 p.m., and the dancing continued until midnight. She laughs that she increasingly skips night parties, so the growing culture of daytime dancing seems much more attractive to her. According to her, the mood of the party during the day is different – more energy and communication, and you can start dancing before the sun sets.
Next stop – Tulum?
Although Goda attended a “Zamna” party for the first time, it seems this acquaintance may have a continuation. Especially since there are plenty of opportunities – “Zamna” events travel through different countries, and music fans travel with them.
Asked if it is worth taking a plane for a party, the girl answers without hesitation – yes. After all, in such a case, the unique event becomes just one part of a much bigger trip.
“It is worth flying to a party in a country you like because then you will enjoy not only the party experience but also the trip, so the memories will be twice as many. And I really like Malta, so I chose this location. Compared to festival prices in Lithuania, sometimes you can plan the whole trip for a similar amount,” says Goda.
Although in Malta she tried a lighter “Zamna” format, the desire to someday see the project in its full scale has not disappeared. If she had to choose one place in the world, Goda would not hesitate long – she would travel to where the “Zamna” story began – to the jungles of Tulum, Mexico. “This time we were at a beach party, but I dreamed of participating in the ‘Zamna’ festival in Tulum in the future and gaining a different experience,” shared Goda.
