Ryanui Easley was only 37 when he died in an attack at the Growler Pines tiger reserve near Hugo, Oklahoma (USA), last September. The father, who was a collaborator of “Tiger King Joe Exotic,” was approaching the end of a big cat demonstration when he was attacked by a tiger.

In the private zoo, visitors can book guided tours to see tigers and other big predators up close and watch training demonstrations.
A terrible accident occurred during one of the shows. Spectators reported that the animal suddenly attacked Ryan, biting and shaking him while both were locked in the training enclosure. Emergency services were called immediately; they arrived within minutes, but according to the “Daily Star,” Ryan was already dead upon arrival at the scene.
Choctaw County Sheriff Terry Park stated: “It was a large tiger. This was the animal he had kept for quite some time.” After Ryan’s death, the Growler Pines tiger reserve posted a statement on Facebook: “With great sadness, we confirm the tragic loss of Ryan Easley – he died in an accident involving a tiger under his care on September 20, 2025, at the Growler Pines tiger reserve.
Ryan was a passionate wildlife conservation advocate. His love for animals – especially big cats – was reflected in every aspect of his life. He dedicated his life to the protection and care of these magnificent animals and firmly believed in Growler Pines’ mission – to provide safe and enriching homes for the animals under his care. His legacy lives on in the lives of the people he touched and the animals he protected, as well as in the example he set for others dedicating their lives to working with wildlife.”

The Growler Pines Tiger Preserve originally operated under the name “ShowMe Tigers”; on its website, the organization presented itself as a traveling big cat show. Later, the organization completely changed its direction and focused on conservation; it now operates as a permanent sanctuary for tigers, where visitors can learn more about these animals.
After Ryan’s death, several animal rights organizations emphasized that this tragedy is a stark reminder of the real danger posed by keeping wild animals in captivity.
Debbie Metzler, senior director at the PETA Foundation responsible for captive wild animals, said: “It was only a matter of time before these cats reacted in a completely natural way – that is, aggression in response to a stress-inducing factor.”
Last December, the Tulsa chief medical examiner confirmed that Ryan died from injuries – blows, cuts, and crushing – sustained during the tiger attack. His death was ruled an accident.
