This alarming surge has caused great concern among vacationers, surfers, and families. The chaos is caused by the Portuguese man o’ war (Physalia physalis) – a notoriously infamous creature often mistaken for a jellyfish, capable of injecting strong venom through its long tentacles. The situation has also caused major disruptions in neighboring Basque Country, where yellow warning flags are also flying.
