„Lithuania needs an effective universal defense system. We still have to create it. Thanks to the initiative group for the ideas and proposals raised,“ said the head of the Government at the meeting.
As reported by the Government Chancellery on Monday, representatives of the initiative group participated in the meeting – signatories of the March 11 Independence Act Petras Vaitiekūnas, Arūnas Degutis, and political scientist Fausta Šimaitytė.
The initiative group presented the idea of strengthening universal defense to the Prime Minister. According to the group, Lithuania has not yet utilized all opportunities and has not created an effective universal defense system.

According to the initiative group, to create a fully functioning universal defense system, government initiative and leadership are necessary. The main administrative resources required to create and implement such a system are precisely in the hands of the Government.
The group also pointed out that a clear legal basis and institutional mechanism, including the establishment of a Universal Defense Center, are necessary for the universal defense system.
