On Sunday, the Žmonės.lt editorial office received a letter, which, as claimed, was written by a reader who watched both The Cure and Moby performances at Kalnų Parkas.

The person pointed out that gatherings of music lovers outdoors are far from as magical as they might seem. It is stated that the audience, despite being surrounded by many other people, constantly smoked at the concerts. Thus, non-smokers had to endure an unwanted smoke cocktail.
I just returned from two wonderful concerts at Kalnų Parkas – The Cure and Moby. The music was great, there were no queues, the weather was fantastic. The only “bonus” no one expected was three hours of active passive smoking. Weed, cigarettes, IQOS, vapes – as if the event had an additional, unadvertised program.
There is nowhere to go out because you like the music and have paid dearly for the ticket. A kind of gas chamber. When I asked one person standing nearby to move a bit further to smoke, I was told that I should be the one to move because smoking is completely allowed here. And indeed – I saw no signs or announcements about this. Even when buying beer at the bar, people smoked calmly, and the sellers paid no attention.
Probably this is the rule for these events. But if so – maybe there could be at least a small non-smoking section? I would gladly pay a few extra euros on top of the ticket to be able to breathe fresh air for three hours.
Or maybe the ticket information could simply say: “There will be a lot of smoking at the event” – so people know in advance what to expect and can decide for themselves if it is acceptable.

Regarding this situation, Žmonės.lt contacted the company “L Tips Agency,” which organized The Cure and Moby concerts, as well as the Public Health Bureau of Vilnius District Municipality. Once we receive comments, we will update the text.
