“Lithuania urges the Belarusian regime to immediately and unconditionally release all political prisoners, end repression against Belarusian society, stop supporting Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, and cease hybrid attacks,” it states.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vilnius will continue to seek accountability for those responsible for human rights violations, repression, and complicity in Russia’s aggression.
Among other things, Lithuania will continue to support Belarusian civil society, independent media, human rights defenders, and democratic forces led by Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
“We will also continue to support a principled European Union response according to agreed guidelines, international efforts to increase the regime’s isolation, and strengthen support for Belarus’s democratic future,” the ministry writes.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a democratic, independent, and peaceful Belarus aligns with the interests of both the Belarusian people and the long-term interests of Lithuania and all of Europe.

Vilnius emphasizes that the policy pursued by the Belarusian regime has a direct impact on the security of Lithuania and Europe, as Minsk remains an accomplice in Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, conducts hybrid attacks against European Union countries, including promoting illegal migration for political purposes.
“Six years after the rigged presidential elections in Belarus on August 9, 2020, Lithuania, together with the international community, continues to not recognize the election results and expresses solidarity with the Belarusian people who, even today, despite repression, defend the principles of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law,” stresses the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“No significant changes have occurred in Belarus over six years. Despite isolated gestures by the regime, the situation in Belarus remains fundamentally unchanged. The repressive apparatus remains intact, and the issue of political prisoners is unresolved. Political persecution continues, and the human rights situation continues to deteriorate,” the ministry states.
