„We, like a political party, and I personally trust law enforcement work. It was clear from the accepted decision who the pen belonged to, and everything was clear. (…) We were satisfied with that decision, we did not intend to take any other actions there,“ O. Leiputė told BNS.

„A person may make mistakes in life. But now, when I read that the investigation is being renewed, maybe they will review it, not all questions have been answered, maybe there will be more clarity,“ she added.
As BNS wrote, this week the prosecutor’s office had decided to terminate the investigation, stating that no act constituting a crime or misdemeanor was committed, but after a few days it was renewed again.
According to the prosecutor’s office, upon renewing the pre-trial investigation, additional pre-trial investigation actions will be carried out to comprehensively assess all circumstances relevant to the qualification of the criminal act, as well as the circumstances of leaving the pen-recorder in the meeting room and possible purposes of its use.
However, during the pre-trial investigation, law enforcement established that the pen belonged to LRT journalist Eglė Samoškaitė, but no objective data was obtained that she sought to collect information about the political party by recording the LSDP council meeting with the device left behind.
E. Samoškaitė herself admits that the pen belonged to her but denied leaving the device at the mentioned meeting.

Meanwhile, O. Leiputė said she did not believe that the recording pen was left accidentally at the LSDP council meeting.
„To be honest, I personally, as a person, did not really believe that it accidentally fell there. We definitely see that journalists’ work is hard, that they want to get information first and thoroughly, but somehow to accidentally lose, drop, at least as was written in the public space, who knows if it really happens accidentally,“ she said.
BNS also wrote that some LSDP representatives claimed to see the need to appeal the previous prosecutor’s decision, but the General Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that no complaint about the termination of the investigation was received.
Also, LRT has initiated an official check regarding E. Samoškaitė’s possible breach of work duties, and the Journalists’ Professional Association announced that it has removed the journalist from its ranks.
