Turkey is primarily associated with black tea by many, and rightly so – it is one of the largest tea producers in the world. However, green tea is also produced in Turkey, although in much smaller quantities. Almost all tea is grown in the northeast of the country, near the Black Sea, especially in the Rize province.

The rainy climate of the Black Sea region and fertile soil have shaped a unique local culinary culture. Products such as leafy cabbages and corn are key elements of Black Sea cuisine. The region is also famous for tea and hazelnut production, and in Rize, where we visited, there are even 60% of all the country’s tea plantations.
