How do trips become a source of income?
As recalled by V. Radzevičius in the insurance company’s podcast “More than Finance,” his and Martynas Starkus’s first trip to Africa started almost as an experiment – with a few cameras, tapes, and the idea to simply capture the adventure. The travelers filmed the expedition themselves, and the show edited from the footage unexpectedly received great viewer attention.
“After a few months, we got calls asking: where will you go next? It turned out our show was very well watched,” said V. Radzevičius. This gave birth to ideas for new trips and television projects. After the expedition to Africa came the “Silk Road” journey through Iran, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan, followed by many other expeditions that turned into documentaries or books.
According to the traveler, the format of trips gradually changed – from car trips departing from Vilnius to expeditions where they fly to foreign countries to find local cars and explore the country with them.
V. Radzevičius emphasizes that the trip itself is usually not a direct source of income, but the accumulated experience can eventually turn into new professional opportunities. One such example is a travel comedy show around Lithuania, which was very successful.
However, today some travelers successfully make a living by creating content on social networks, but a few decades ago the situation was quite different.
Where would he return again?
During many expeditions, the speaker has visited almost all continents – except Antarctica, although he got close to it. Among the most memorable places, he highlights Australia and Alaska – regions distinguished not only by impressive nature but also by a special relationship between people and the environment and a spirit of adventure.
Although V. Radzevičius has traveled almost all continents, he still has dream destinations. One of them is Micronesia and Polynesia, where, according to him, one could travel from island to island, dive, and experience a completely different rhythm of life.
Technology changed not only travel but also its romance
V. Radzevičius notes that over several decades, not only travel routes or possibilities have changed but also the experience itself. Earlier expeditions meant complete detachment from everyday life, but today the connection with home never breaks for a moment.
“The first trips with big cameras and tapes looked completely different than now. Once we even filmed by tying a camera to a four-meter bamboo stick, and people asked if we had hired a helicopter. Now a drone is enough for that,” recalled the traveler.
According to the speaker, the biggest change in traveling was brought not only by filming technology but also by constant contact with loved ones. “I walk through the jungle, cutting a path with a machete, and at the same time, my wife sends me photos of the sofa and asks if we choose red or green. Earlier, you couldn’t even imagine that,” laughed V. Radzevičius.
He says technology has made travel more comfortable and safer but at the same time reduced the feeling of complete isolation and uncertainty, which was previously an inseparable part of every expedition.
Helps to know oneself
According to V. Radzevičius, the value of travel lies not only in new experiences or possible professional opportunities – they also change a person’s attitude toward themselves and the environment. Longer trips allow one to look at everyday life from the outside and reevaluate what we have.

“Trips really provide a lot of inner peace and the ability to see yourself from the outside afterward. There is no more beautiful moment for me than returning to Lithuania after a month-long trip and looking at it through the eyes of the country I was in. Then you see what a wonderful place we live in,” says V. Radzevičius.
He states that such emotional and personal returns are also one of the reasons why travel can be considered an investment in oneself.
Trips allowed V. Radzevičius not only to get to know different countries but also to compare how quality of life is created there. One of the most memorable examples is Denmark, where, according to the traveler, not only the social system but also the society’s attitude toward life is charming.
“My dream is for Lithuanians to live like Scandinavians – to keep their hobbies, to feel free people with great responsibility for themselves,” said the traveler.
How to plan finances?
Speaking about travel finances, V. Radzevičius says that the biggest investment is usually made before departure. According to him, the most important thing is to take care of the main things in advance – flights, transport, accommodation, and the essential budget, while further expenses depend on the traveler’s needs and choices.
He says that on a trip, the amount of money usually matters less than a person’s choices and attitude. Everything else depends on the person’s nature, character, and needs.
The most important thing is that travel, like any other investment, requires planning – the better you prepare in advance, the more value you can get from the experience itself.
Although V. Radzevičius has visited many corners of the world, the desire to travel, according to him, has not disappeared anywhere. The traveler says that even after many expeditions, he is still drawn to uncomfortable, unpredictable adventures – trips where luxury is not important, but the feeling of discovery is.
“If circumstances allowed, I would go again by old car: dust, off-road, adventures – you never know what awaits around the corner. I miss that,” said V. Radzevičius.
According to the speaker, traveling can be done in many ways – it is not necessary to look for the most remote corners of the world. Currently, he himself is interested in exploring Lithuania on foot, by bike, or by other means.
